Navy to come clean about sub purchase | Bangkok Post: news

The Royal Thai Navy will explain in full its controversial submarine purchase plans during a news conference at its Sattahip base in Chon Buri on Monday. Navy chief of staff Adm Luechai Ruddit, chairman of the navy's submarine procurement management panel, along with other officers would explain the controversial purchase. Citing Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said on Friday that the submarine procurement was above board. The premier also apologised for any misunderstandings in relation to the government's approval of the navy's submarine purchase, he added. Meanwhile Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon yesterday hit back at former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who criticised the purchase for coming at a time while the country is struggling economically.
